Where you hold a shorter focal lens in front of a tele-photo lens, In this case I used a 70-300 with a 50mm on top. There are special ring you can buy to hold the lens in place but holding works pretty well.
Any way I upgraded my RAM to day and one does one do with his old RAM take pictures of it of course.
I had the RAM laying on a black sheet of card stock and I used my strobe set on 1/8 power shot through a translucent umbrella.

Great shot. Looks like you got all the kinks worked out. Very abstract, I would have never guessed what it was unless you told me. Great lighting too.
